Camping First Aid

Posted by: admin in Categories: Camping News.

Accidents happen even on the most well planned camping trips. You need to not only plan to avoid accidents, but you also need to plan on how to handle them if and when they arise while camping. The important thing is to remember to remain calm. The worse thing you can do is panic. You need to keep a clear head and just let your first aid training kick in. If you don’t have any first aid training then you should attend some classes before going camping. If you are not calm then you may not treat the correct problem and this could just make it worse.

Three common ailments that befall campers are dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. To most people these all seem like similar ailments, and they are, but they each need to be treated differently. Confusing which treatment goes with which will not only halt healing, but it could also do damage. The first most common problem while camping is dehydration. The best thing to do is just to keep yourself well hydrated with water.

You may drink nothing but soda and coffee at home, but if you try that while camping you will quickly find yourself in a hospital room for dehydration. There are several indications of dehydration besides the obvious thirst. Excessive sweating, rapid breathing, clammy skin, and loss of skin elasticity are all signs of dehydration. Children may also have sunken eyes when dehydrated. If someone gets dehydrated while you’re camping then you want to have them rest in the shade and drink plenty of cool water. You’ll also want them to remove any unnecessary clothing. Heat exhaustion is another common problem while camping. This is caused by not only to too much heat, but can also be caused by too much humidity. A person with heat exhaustion will have pale, clammy skin, rapid breathing, excessive sweating, thirst and nausea, headache, and exhaustion. Again you’ll want the person to take a break from camping and completely rest with their feet elevated. Cool water and a shady place are a must.

You’ll even want to sponge the person with water. The third common camping ailment is heat stroke. Heat stroke is caused by your body not regulating body temperature correctly, causing your body to overheat. Symptoms are flushed, dry skin, a lack of sweat, rapid and weak pulse, irrational behavior, staggering, headache, and vomiting. If not caught early and treated this can also lead to a collapse, a seizure, a coma, and even death. If someone gets heat exhaustion while camping you need to get help immediately and get an ambulance. Have them rest in the shade with their head raised. Use ice or cool water to cool them down and if they are conscious have them drink. These three ailments are common while camping and should be watched for and treated immediately.

First aid knowledge is essential when camping. Remember that water always helps, so have plenty of it with you at all times. If something does happen on your camping trip stay calm and remember what you’ve learned. If he’s red raise his head, if he’s pale raise his tale, is a good rhyme to help you remember what to do if something happens while you’re camping. Keep cool and hydrated and you should be able to avoid complications like these on your camping trip.

Your travel shall be a pleasure if you follow some tips while you plan out your traveling through southwest airlines.

southwest airline, southwest airline reservation, southwest airline flight, southwest airline fare, southwest airline ticket, southwest airline special
If you reside in the south west or you have to travel to the southwest, most of the times you travel through Southwest Airlines. You can take help of the south west airline guide to know all the available flights and the arrival and departure time as well the fares and all the necessary information related to your travel. But to save some bucks and make your travel easier, you need to follow some tips.

1. You should seek for the best fares available for a travel program and because these are very time limited you need to decide fast that which one will be good for you. You can plan in advance for your travel visit and check out the website of the airlines or help guide so as to save many bucks of yours.

2. You can also join the Southwest Frequent Traveler Program whereby if you have to make frequent visits with southwest you can buy tickets for your short trips and use the free tickets that you will earn for your longer and expensive trips.

3. Since Southwest finds that boarding is better and takes less time when they board the travelers in groups, they doesn’t assign seats. You have groups namely A, B and C where A is the best group that gives you a chance to board first. You can also make more seating selection and can also assure a bin for your carry on luggage when you get the A-status. You would get a C- status that will end up you in a middle seat or you have to check your carry on luggage.

4. The pilot of the airlines stands below the Jetway before the incoming flight arrives and you need to queue up before some time the flight arrives. If you stand half an hour before the arriving flight, you should find your place next to a seat in the boarding area but this works when your place in the queue or line happens to be next to a seat.

5. Sometimes you will need to wait to get your pass. You can obtain a pass by paying a small fee to some companies that assist you in reserving your pass in advance.

6. Before the general boarding, children of the age group in between five to eleven who are not accompanied by elders, adults traveling with any child below the age of five and people with physical disabilities are allowed for a pre board. As such, when you make your reservation and check in you should provide your personal or special status.

7. Previously you had to print your boarding pass at home even if it was midnight before you travel but now they have a 24 hour window that provides you with printed boarding passes.

8. You need to weigh your luggage prior you proceed to board in the flight and since there are certain luggage policies you are allowed to carry small personal size briefcase or purse with you and you need to place large items in the overhead bins. In case you had a C status and all the bins are filled up you will have to check your carry on luggage.

9. You should try to reach on time and while you board go directly to your chosen row, set your luggage and sit down instead of chatting with your friends. When the plane fills yup, you can head to back and never backtrack. Don’t carry heavy luggage that you can’t lift up to the overhead bin because at that moment you yourself are responsible for settling down your luggage.

10. You can avail gifts and discounts while you are on the board as you get some discount coupons and can get rapid rewards and credits that you can use in your later travel.

Camping Injuries

Posted by: admin in Categories: Camping News.

With all the activities that take place on camping trips it’s important to be prepared for an accident. The best investment into your camping trip that you can make is an investment into first aid knowledge. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

Hiking is a common camping activity and it presents the camper with the possibility of fractures and sprains. There are two types of fractures, a simple fracture and a compound fracture. You need to be prepared for both on your camping trip. A simple fracture can be identified by swelling, tenderness, pain, loss of mobility, and feeling or hearing a bone crack or snap. If a simple fracture is not treated then it can turn into a more serious compound fracture. Sometimes while camping people feel the need to just brush things off and continue with their hike, continuing while injured will only make things worse, but could lead to permanent damage.

If there is a chance that you fractured a bone you need to stop moving immediately. Your goal is to immobilize the fractured area. If the wounded limb is a finger then tape or tie the finger to an adjacent finger. If the lower arm is fractured then you want to splint the forearm and use a sling to immobilize it. If the upper arm is fractured then put the arm in a sling and bandage it to the chest. If it is a leg that is fractured then splint it or if the person can be carried, bind the legs together using the other leg as a natural splint. When you’re camping you will sometimes have to be creative in finding a splint. A splint can really be made of anything, a piece of wood, a rolled up magazine or newspaper, or even a rolled up blanket.

A splint can be anything that is straight and sturdy enough to stay straight. After getting a splint on try to elevate the fractured limb to slow the blood flow. A compound fracture is a fracture that breaks through the skin. This is much more serious and you should get help immediately and not try to move the injured person. There will be a lot of bleeding from the compound fracture but you cannot put pressure on it to stop the bleeding. Splint the limb and try to cover the wound with a sterile pad or bandage and wait for help. This is why you should always go camping with other people and never hike by yourself. Another injury that could happen while camping is a sprain. A sprain is where the ligaments tear from a joint.

Hiking boots provide support for the ankle to help avoid this and to offer support should it happen. Ankle sprains are the most common while camping and are characterized by sudden pain, an inability to support weight, bruising, swelling, and tenderness. The best thing to do is to rest the ankle, apply a cold compress or ice for at least ten minutes, firmly bandage it for support, and elevate it. Sprains are common while camping and fortunately if they are taken care of and not ignored, it shouldn’t completely ruin your camping trip.

Plan for the best and prepare for the worst when camping. These first aid tips and guidelines will help your next camping trip be safe and fun.

Is there a vacation that you have been dreaming of taking? Perhaps you have been dying to visit Vancouver Island in Canada’s British Columbia, or maybe you want to tour Europe with nothing but your backpack. Have a desire to relax on a Caribbean island or on the islands of Greece? Any of these amazing vacations could become a reality for you. Unfortunately, many people who dream of traveling are hindered because of the great expense and hassle of finding good airfare to make it to their dream destinations.

Obviously, you cannot get from here to there without airfare, and therefore, you can throw away any dreams of a great vacation unless you are willing to search for airfare that works for your budget and needs.

Finding airfare can be really easy or very difficult. One of the easiest ways to find great airfare is to talk with a travel agent. Travel agents are paid to help you find the best possible airfare for all of your travel needs. You can simply relay to them your travel desires and your budget and then trust them to come up with great deals. However, if you have the desire and ability to look for airfare on your own, you may be able to find better deals.

Finding your own airfare can be a great way to save some money and to be selective about the particular airlines and schedule for your flights. Just jump online and do a search for inexpensive airfare. You will probably be overwhelmed by the amount of options you have, but just begin somewhere and don’t give up too quickly. Be sure to compare prices, schedules and other details between websites. You may even be able to find great airfare by bidding for your own prices on certain websites.

No matter how long the process takes, press on to find great airfare. Why? Because your dream trip will quickly become reality when you find airfare. Once people overcome the obstacle of choosing airfare, often the rest of the trip details fall into place quickly. Details such as accommodations, food, entertainment and recreation never seem as overwhelming as finding airfare.

Take my advice: find your airfare first. Don’t let a flight get in the way of making your dreams come true.

Camping For Relaxation

Posted by: admin in Categories: Camping News.

Camping can be a very relaxing and therapeutic way to spend some time away from mundane tasks and the worries of everyday life. Camping is an excellent way to clear your mind and express your quieter side. Try camping to learn more of your spiritual or inner self.

In the fast paced world in which we live there is so much to do and so little time to accomplish it. For this reason many people seek the escapes of camping. It is a simple and affordable way for anyone to take themselves back to some of the basics of living. Your camping trip can be a time for you to get away from the smog and pollution of the factories. It is a simple escape from noise pollution and even light pollution. You may be asking yourself what light pollution is. Well before you get too worried I will say that it is not a contagious disease. In fact you may not even realize what the term light pollution refers to until you get away from the lights of a city.

While camping at night away from civilization you will see the stars possibly brighter than you’d remembered them to be. When camping it can easily seem like there are more stars than in the city because you have no light from other sources to alter your perceptions.

While camping you can relax as you listen to new sounds. Instead of the hums of air condition and fans at the workplace you can listen to hear wind rustling through tree branches, the trickling of a creek or the sounds of birds or owls. Camping will win your heart over if you can allow yourself the opportunity to just release yourself to the experience. Camping is truly a delight for your senses and besides just those of sight and sounds, you will be able to smell the aromas of nature that man is so cleverly trying to capture and bottle into your various laundry detergents and home deodorizers. Well, on your camping trip you will have done one better! You will be there experiencing those invigorating smells on your own.

There is a feeling involved with a camping experience. Maybe to you it will be a freedom realized, or a new insight into your future. Either way, it is your camping experience and one you can cherish for a very long time. There is something awaiting everyone at a camping spot not too far from your home. For so many people today camping is a form of relaxation that beckons them to return time and time again for a little peace of mind.

Many make their way to a favorite camping place to search their feelings for answers and others go camping to try and think of nothing at all! Whatever your reason for camping this year, there is bound to be a sense of relaxation awaiting you. So leave work behind and turn your cell phones, pagers and headphones off. Treat your senses to a relaxing camping vacation.

Desert Camping

Posted by: admin in Categories: Camping News.

When most people think of camping they think of forests, mountains, lakes, and other lush examples of nature. However, camping can also be done in the desert. Growing up in Arizona I can tell you that desert camping is a wonderful experience as long as you know what you’re doing.

The first thing you want to always remember to do when camping in the desert is to let some friends or family know where you are going to be camping and how long you plan to be camping there. This is incredibly important. Unless you have survivalist training, it is much harder to stay alive if you get lost in the desert than if you were to get lost in a more lush setting. Safety must always be a top concern when camping in the desert. Make sure you bring plenty of water with you, always pack enough for one or two more days than you plan for your camping trip, you’ll usually end up using more than you plan to. Another safety concern when desert camping is snakes and scorpions.

Always have a shovel handy as it is the easiest way to kill a snake. Usually snakes and scorpions won’t be a problem, but you don’t want to be caught unprepared. Both animals can cause significant harm and even death if they attack you. They are unlikely to mess with you unless you tread on their territory, so keep a look out when choosing a camping spot.

When choosing a camping site try to find a spot with some shade. If there isn’t a good amount of shade then bring a canopy to provide shade. You also want to pick a place without too much sand. When the wind gets blowing it will coat everything. Even though it is the desert, there are still plenty of creeks and it is wise to find a spot near one when camping. Also be on the lookout for rocks. A spot that you may think is nice and smooth often turns out to be rocks covered in sand after you try to settle in for the night.

The desert presents a unique camping atmosphere. During the day it can get pretty hot, you’ll obviously want to try and avoid camping in the summer months. However, it often shocks people how chilly it can get at night, so make sure you pack in layers. Even during the day it is a good idea to wear long sleeves and pants made from a very lightweight material. You want to make sure to protect your skin from the sun. Sunscreen is a must when camping in the desert and should be applied liberally. If you don’t drink enough during the day then the sun can wear you out, so stay hydrated.

For those who are willing to face the hardships of camping in the desert there are plenty of rewards. While the desert may look barren at a glance, it holds many different treasures. There is beautiful plant and animal life to be seen. Remember that certain cacti are protected by law when camping in the desert. It is never a good idea to drink from one and if you mess with the wrong kind, like the saguaro, you could end up in legal trouble. There are also rare reptiles to be found while desert camping. Just as there is beauty in the lush camping spots in America, there is equal beauty to be found when desert camping for those who look for it.

There is no doubt that traveling is expensive. Whether you wish to travel to the next state, the next country, or all the way around the world, travel requires money. There are many things that contribute to the costs of travel, not the least of which is airfare. Airfare often makes up a large percentage of a travel budget, even more so now with the oil prices continually on the rise. It is wise for any traveler to search for the cheapest airfare possible for any air travel that is planned.

Finding the cheapest airfare can be quite the task. While it may not be found instantly (although certain websites these days give nearly instant results), I guarentee that the search for the cheapest airfare prices will be worth it for you. One of the biggest reasons to fight for the cheapest airfare prices is that you can devote more of your money on the parts of your trip that you really care about like lodging, food, and entertainment.

A great place to start your search for the cheapest airfare is to talk with a travel agent. Especially if you are traveling with a business or organization, a travel agent can often be a very useful resource in locating the cheapest airfare. And don’t be afraid to shop around for a great travel agent who understands and meets your unique needs. Look for an agent that is willing to work hard for you.

If you are more of the adventurous type, don’t hesitate to search for the cheapest airfare available on your own. The internet is an amazing resource for all things travel, including finding surprizing deals on cheapest airfare. So devote some time to looking at several different websites before you make a purchase. You may find slightly more reasonable deals by staying away from mainstream websites. It is easy to do a search for websites that offer cheapest airfare deals.

Any trip will be more enjoyable if you can save money on your airfare. Finding the cheapest airfare frees you up to spend money on other things that matter more. You will be able to fill your special time with great memories that will last a lifetime. So do not hesitate to search out the cheapest airfare possible. You will be glad you did.

Ever Wondered How to Start Camping?

Posted by: admin in Categories: Camping News.

So let’s assume you have never been camping before. How would you start camping? Where would you decide to spend your camping trip and how long would your camping trip last? Would you want to rent your camping equipment from an outdoor and camping retailer or would you be determined to have your own camping equipment?

These are all important factors for a new camper to determine. You have undoubtedly seen movies depicting camping and maybe that is how you filled your mind with camping expectations. If so you will want to take that camping idea and try to recreate it for yourself and possibly your family. I know campers who when they find their perfect place to camp, will pitch a tent and others that would never consider camping without a motor home with running water and plumbing. Some people prefer no tent or cover at all and set up a hammock between two sturdy trees to enjoy their camping experience. Some of them will drink out of streams and even eat wild vegetation to create their unique camping experience. No one person’s idea of camping is wrong and it is up to their own interpretation of a camping experience.

When planning your camping adventure, your own camping needs and desires should be followed. This is how you make your camping experience become a good experience. Maybe your first few camping experiences won’t be roughing it without running water on your camping trip. Maybe you won’t dig up roots to eat a wild outdoor meal. You will however step outside your comfort zone when you go camping. The first step to creating your camping reality begins in your mind!

Although you may have expectations for camping, make certain you realize that nothing will always go as planned without a hitch on your first attempt. After all you will be using camping utilities and equipment for camping that are most likely going to be foreign to you. Because of this you need to cut yourself some slack so that your camping experience can rollout in a fun and enjoyable manner. The new experiences you can have with a new camping experience can be something you write down in a journal or tell stories about for years to come.

Some families have a long tradition of camping on holidays, spring break, summer and family reunions. It is a great way to bond with family without the interference of modern technology and neighbors. Young children can make the most fun and entertaining camping enthusiasts in the world. They often seem the most eager to plan for a camping trip. They look forward to camping with great anticipation. Imagine what a youngster can discover on a camping trip. Young people are so adaptable to camping conditions so if you have a chance to camp with younger family members, make sure you don’t pass up the experience.

Make your first few camping trips carefree and simple and you’ll learn to love it. You may even find yourself starting new family traditions that include the wonderful adventures of camping!

Camping Disasters

Posted by: admin in Categories: Camping News.

Have you ever gone camping to find that it rained the entire time you were out? Well, if so you probably thought it was a camping disaster. Even though you may not have enjoyed walking along the creek in the sunshine or lazily watching a beaver build a dam while fishing in a pond, you nonetheless have a disaster camping story to remind you that the greatest camping places have moods too.

There are many things that can go wrong while camping and it all depends on the location you choose. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to a bear rummaging through your camp looking for food! That could spell disaster for this camping trip, even if the bear finds what it needs and then decides to leave without making a threatening scene.

Camping during a severe thunderstorm can really make you aware of the powers of nature and maybe even keep you up but if you are prepared you can weather the storm on this camping adventure. In the case of a storm you will need to have put an extra tarp under the tent and you will need to dig small trenches all the way around your tent for the downpour of rain to follow. If you do not the rain will puddle up around your tent and seep in from the floor. So make the trenches around the tent and anywhere in your camping site that you need to remain puddle free. It can help to put your camping equipment and tent on a slight grade.

Camping during a severe wind storm is particularly annoying and can be a terrible disaster if you let it. For this reason it can be wise to set up a lean-to or wind break that can alleviate the catastrophic event. A wind break for your camping spot can be designed within minutes between a couple of the sturdiest trees in your camping vicinity.

A forest fire can devastate camping if lightening strikes a nearby tree. Many times lightening can start a forest fire, but most often it is put out by the accompanying rains before it gets out of hand. This camping disaster is not very common but you should always have an escape plan in any camping situation. A forest fire can also be caused by a camping enthusiast being careless with their fire habits. For this reason you must always put out camping fires cold! This means with plenty of water, and until the fire pit is cold. Never allow a member of your camping party to play with fire at any time. Please never allow yourself or them to discard cigarettes in any unsafe place.

A camping disaster is never planned. So make sure you do your part so you can be ready in the event of a camping disaster and possibly prevent it from ruining your camping pleasures altogether. Most of the time you can avoid camping during a potentially bad situation by consulting the weather service for that area and by taking an emergency shortwave radio for continued updates.

Just who is keeping the skies safe these days? An alphabet soup of government agencies is tasked with ensuring that each and every flight is completed safely and securely. Do you know them by name? If not, the following list delineates their various and sometimes overlapping responsibilities.

flight safety, FAA, NSTB, DOT, Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, air travel
If you have ever flown you likely are aware of several government organizations dedicated to the oversight of the aviation industry. Alphabet soup sounding names such as the FAA, DOT, and NSTB are often mentioned, but each organization has a distinct role in ensuring passenger safety. Let’s take a look at three federal agencies tasked with ensuring that your next flight is a safe one.

Federal Aviation Administration ?The Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, is responsible for the safety of civil aviation. According to their web site [1], the FAA is tasked with the following responsibilities:

?Regulating civil aviation to promote safety

?Encouraging and developing civil aeronautics, including new aviation technology

?Developing and operating a system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft

?Researching and developing the National Airspace System and civil aeronautics

?Developing and carrying out programs to control aircraft noise and other environmental effects of civil aviation

?Regulating U.S. commercial space transportation
You can learn more information about the FAA, how it is managed, governing responsibilities, and even hiring information at www.faa.gov

U.S. Department of Transportation ?The Department of Transportation, or DOT, overseas the operation of 13 governmental agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration. The chief responsibilities of the DOT is to, “keep the traveling public safe and secure, increase their mobility, and have our transportation system contribute to the nation’s economic growth.?[2] Visit www.dot.gov for more information.

The National Safety Transportation Board ?The National Safety Transportation Board, or NSTB, is an independent federal agency appointed by Congress and tasked with investigating every civil aviation accident in the US as well as in marine, roads, and other transportation areas. Since its inception in 1967, the NSTB has investigated over 124,000 aviation accidents. Visit www.nstb.gov for more information.

Of course, today there is a fourth agency involved to some degree in ensuring passenger safety. The Department of Homeland Security, or DHS, was created in direct response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This department oversees several other agencies including the Transportation Security Administration, the organization that hires, trains, and deploys transportation security screeners at airports across the U.S.

You may not know an FAA, DOT, NSTB, or DHS employee when you see one, but together they are all tasked with ensuring that your next flight is a safe one.
