B - THE GUIDE - B

Ball Inn, The
Crookes, Sheffield
Quiet
This is a BIG pub! And it is all wooden inside. We visited at about 1:30 in the afternoon and the two of us seemed to rattle around it's vast insides. [TOP]

Bankers Draft, The
1-3 Market Place, Sheffield
0114 275 6609
Mix
This large JDW pub is huge and has one of the most complicated routes to the toilets I have ever seen! Make sure to take your map and compass. I am always amazed by the mix of clientele that this pub attracts. During the day there is a mix of old men, families, middle aged couples, students, the whole works. It’s a bit louder at night, sometimes there are queues out of the door. My favourite meeting place for the beginning of the night. [TOP]

Banner Cross Hotel
971 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield
0114 266 1479
Night Out
A good, friendly pub in a nice part of Sheffield. There is a large upstairs room with several pool and snooker tables in it. A great selling point for any pub. [TOP]
[THE GUIDE]

Barking Badger, The
Chesterfield
Loud
A pub that from the outside looks uninviting and full of your 40-something women dressed up like 17 yr. olds (You know the type) but we were pleasantly surprised when we got in. It was a leaving do from work, so there were a lot of people there, which probably made it more fun. It's got a late licence too. [TOP]

Barn Inn, The
Water Leisure Park, Ingoldmelds, Skegness
Campers
As the name suggests, this is a converted barn on a great campsite in Skegness. It is a great pup and since the weather was gorgeous, we sat out in the sun with a cold bottle of Carlsberg. It beats the other Campers pub, The Elmhurst by miles. [TOP]

Bath Hotel, The
Off West Street, Sheffield
Old Man / Locals
A Review by Emily and Mike

This is a small, slightly run-down but friendly pub. It was 10 on a Friday night. West street was heaving and it was refreshing to come here for a couple of pints actually sat at a table.

Beachcomber, The
The Seafront, Skegness
Seaside
Like Wolfies, this is a typical Seaside pub. Its got huge windows with little wall, 70's style and is dropping apart. The night we went though, the tide was in, it was 8.00 pm, the sun was setting behind us on one of the hottest days of 1998. We took our pints to the seafront. Drinking those pints with the waves lapping at our feet and the sun warming our shoulders was one of the best pints I have ever drunk in my short life. A highlight of 1998. [TOP]

Beer Engine, The
17 Cemetery Road, Sheffield
0114 272 8218
Real Ale
This is a really friendly, warm sort of place and I like it a lot. It has a lot of beers and was our local university watering hole. Great! [TOP]

Berlins Bar
Eyre Street, Sheffield
0114 275 9469
Loud
A tacky, 80's style, "Thinks-its-a-club" sort of place with a naff "I-think-I'm-a-DJ" type of bloke who gets on my nerves. Expensive drinks and stuck-up, "I'm-gorgeous-and-I-know-it-therefore- everyone- fancies-me" types of people who think they're better than everyone else. I hate this place. [TOP]

Bostonian, The
Bishop Auckland
Loud
My sister had her 18th birthday party here. It’s a good pub with a disco upstairs. Wendy, my sister ended up getting so drunk she couldn't walk, which provided me with lots of entertainment. It is also the only place I have danced with no shoes with a group of six 18-yr old girls. Then Wendy ran into me, we both fell over and I hit my head on the mirror-effect walls. Top Night! [TOP]
[THE GUIDE]

Breez
Cambridge Street, Sheffield
Disco
I was very under the influence when I visited Breez. [sic] You have to go upstairs to get in. It is another of those "Trying to be a club and failing" types of places so abundant in North East market towns. I didn't like it at the time, but I can't remember exactly why now. So the 2-dot score may be totally misleading. If it is, sorry. [TOP]

British Oak, The
1 Mosborough Moor, Mosborough, Sheffield
0114 248 6442
Mix
This place has a good pool table, a HUGE telly, good food and one of the most fantastic bar maids I know. She's good looking, extremely friendly and keeps dropping vinegar, salt, chips and anything else she can find all over me. What more can you ask of a barmaid!? [TOP]

Broadfield Hotel
Abbeydale Road, Sheffield
0114 255 0200
Loud
The Broadie has a few pool tables and good drinks offers. It’s a friendly place, and I like it a lot. Andy once accepted a game of pool from one of the "Local's". This guy had a shaven head and his own pool cue behind the bar. Andy was drunk and was a bit scared. Imagine our delight as Andy whipped this guy's arse! He didn't even get a look in. We were all very proud but were convinced we were all going to die. [TOP]
[THE GUIDE]

Brook, The
Mill Road, Cambridge
Quiet
This one is a few doors down from a friend of mine. Many, many occasions saw us saying "Let's go for a pint" and finding that the blasted place was closed. I've only ever seen it open once, and even then we got hurried out because it was about to close again. So I give it one purple dot even though it has a canny pool table, nice décor and is quite friendly. But being open is the most important part of any pub, isn't it!? [TOP]

Broomhill Tavern, The
404 Glossop Road, Sheffield
0114 266 2658
Student
A typical 'pubby' type of pub. This one has no outstanding features, nor do I have any stories about anything that has gone on here. Abi's mate Jo works here though, if that means anything to you..? Apparently though, it keeps getting voted the Top Tetley's Pub in the country. Or so Abi's mate Jo says, and I believe her cos she's lovely. [TOP]
