H - THE GUIDE - H

Hallamshire Hotel, The
182 West Street, Sheffield
0114 266 3611
Mix
This place has apparently been done up since I was there. But on 23 Feb 1998, it was a run down, shabby rockers type of place. I wasn't really impressed by it and there is really not much more I can say. [TOP]

Hammer and Pincers, The
Ringinglow Road, Sheffield
0114 235 5040
Local
A typical "Locals" pub, the Hammer and Pincers is one of those places that you see every day, it looks inviting from the outside yet I never got round to going in. I went last night though to their pub quiz and I really enjoyed it. The people are friendly and its got a good atmosphere. It was a good night. As with the Porterbrook, we failed miserably at the quiz! [TOP]

Hare, The
Harrow Weald, Middlesex
Quiet
This is a stereotypical 'country' pub. Its black wood walls and long bar filled with locals is a nice place to just sit and have a couple of pints. [TOP]

Hermitage Inn
London Road, Sheffield
0114 272 1618
Student
3 Oct 1998:Sorry! This pub no longer exists! It is now known as R&R

ThisWe visited the Hermitage in the depths of the Student Vacation. We were the only customers in this large pub for the 35 mins we were there. The staff outnumbered us, but we had a good, un-disturbed game of pool on their good pool table. I did leave my watch behind though. I got it back the next day.

High Green WMC
High Green, Sheffield
WMC
This Working Mens Club is the only one I've ever been in, so I can't really offer comment. It seemed a friendly place, although it was really quiet when we ventured through its doors. The beer is really cheap. [TOP]

Highcliffe Hotel
Greystones Road, Sheffield
0114 266 0296
Local
Sitting at the top of a huge hill, this pub doesn't get many visitors from the bottom which is mainly a student area. It’s a large pub run by a sound family, one of whom was celebrating his 18th birthday and was trying to play darts while being absolutely ratted. It made for good entertainment, anyway! [TOP]

Hogshead, The
Cambridge
Busy
A Hogshead is a Hogshead, really. There is not much that sets this one apart. It is quite large and had a great atmosphere the night I visited. It looks across some Common Grass called Parkers Piece in the middle of Cambridge which is quite nice.

According to Chris the local, this "buzzing" town centre pub is always good for a few pints at the start of a night out but can get very busy.

Hogshead, The
Leeds
Going Out
I love Hogshead pubs. Today was the day after the Epic Leeds tour, so things were a taken a little easier. This place is typical of Hogsheads, but with a poster of a skeleton on the wall, always a talking point, as was the collection of bottles behind the bar. Quite impressive too. [TOP]

Hogshead, The
Orchard Square, Sheffield
0114 272 1980
Quiet
A Hogshead is a Hogshead, really. There is not much that sets this one apart. It has been quite quiet the nights I've visited. It looks across some Shopping Arcade called Orchard Square in the middle of Sheffield which is quite nice. [TOP]

Hotshots
Sheffield Arena, Sheffield
Loud
This is a huge place. It's airy and like an aircraft hanger. It's done up like an American Diner type of place. A big emphasis on sport, loads of video machines, air hockey, 10-pin bowling, pool tables, a burger bar. It's good as a prelude to going to Pulse, the nightclub next door. [TOP]
[THE GUIDE]

Howard, The
57 Howard Street, Sheffield
0114 278 0183
Student
This place is near to the main Sheffield Hallam University campus and is infinitely better than SHU's own offering, The NMB so most students go here. It's a friendly sort of place. Check it out on a Wednesday before Planet Earth at The Leadmill. I promise you will like it! [TOP]
[THE GUIDE]

Hyde Park, The
Leeds
Going Out
This place is big, as in all other Epic Leeds Night pubs. It has pool tables all over, even on the ceiling! I liked this one a lot. Second only to The Favesham [TOP]
