West Street, Sheffield

|
| This
place has apparently been done up since I
was there. But on 23 Feb 1998, it was a
run down, shabby rockers type of place. I
wasn't really impressed by it and there
is really not much more I can say.

| Hammer and Pincers, The
|
|
Ringinglow Road, Sheffield
0114 235 5040 |
Local
|
| A
typical "Locals" pub,
the Hammer and Pincers is one of those
places that you see every day, it looks
inviting from the outside yet I never got
round to going in. I went last night
though to their pub quiz and I really
enjoyed it. The people are friendly and
its got a good atmosphere. It was a good
night. As with the Porterbrook,
we failed miserably at the quiz! |

Quiet
|
| This is
a stereotypical 'country' pub. Its black
wood walls and long bar filled with
locals is a nice place to just sit and
have a couple of pints. |

Oct 1998:Sorry! This pub no longer
exists! It is now known as R&R
ThisWe visited the Hermitage in the
depths of the Student Vacation. We were
the only customers in this large pub for
the 35 mins we were there. The staff
outnumbered us, but we had a good,
un-disturbed game of pool on their good
pool table. I did leave my watch behind
though. I got it back the next day.

WMC
|
| This
Working Mens Club is the only one I've
ever been in, so I can't really offer
comment. It seemed a friendly place,
although it was really quiet when we
ventured through its doors. The beer is
really cheap. |

| Highcliffe Hotel
|
|
Greystones Road, Sheffield
0114 266 0296 |
Local
|
| Sitting
at the top of a huge hill, this
pub doesn't get many visitors from the
bottom which is mainly a student area.
Its a large pub run by a sound
family, one of whom was celebrating his
18th birthday and was trying to play
darts while being absolutely ratted. It
made for good entertainment, anyway!

| Hogshead, The

Leeds
|
Going
Out |
| I love
Hogshead pubs. Today was the day after
the Epic Leeds tour,
so things were a taken a little easier.
This place is typical of Hogsheads, but
with a poster of a skeleton on the wall,
always a talking point, as was the
collection of bottles behind the bar.
Quite impressive too. |

Quiet
|
| A
Hogshead is a Hogshead, really. There is
not much that sets this one apart. It has
been quite quiet the nights I've visited.
It looks across some Shopping Arcade
called Orchard Square in the middle of
Sheffield which is quite nice. |

Sheffield Arena, Sheffield
|
Loud
|
| This is
a huge place. It's airy and like an
aircraft hanger. It's done up like an
American Diner type of place. A big
emphasis on sport, loads of video
machines, air hockey, 10-pin bowling,
pool tables, a burger bar. It's good as a
prelude to going to Pulse, the nightclub
next door. |
