R - THE GUIDE - R

R&R
London Road, Sheffield
0114 272 1618
Bar
Eugh! This place used to be The Hermitage and my personal view is that they should have left it that way. You see, they have kept the original carpets, bar and furniture. (These were all traditional pub style) They have painted the walls lime green and stuck many photographs of film stars and the like all over the place. It tries hard to give the air of a café bar, the likes of which are all over Sheffield's Devonshire Quarter. It fails. The place looks cluttered, with many different styles all conflicting with each other. It gives me a headache trying to remember all about it. Go and have a look for yourself to see what I mean. Rat & Parrot, The
Cambridge
Unknown
I am afraid that I can't remember this pub. I'll have to ask Chris the Local, but he's not in at the moment. [TOP]

Rat & Parrot, The
Harrow
Going Out
I had to go in this pub by myself when I was working in Harrow. It is quite big. The atmosphere is good, the staff friendly and the food good. I liked it. It has a patio at the front, which looks across a pedestrianised shopping street. That's about all I can remember about it. [TOP]

HUGE!
This is one LARGE pub! Its on at least three levels, sells gorgeous food and is a sight to behold. I urge you go there, just for a look, I think it's a little too big, not much atmosphere. Although it was a Sunday lunchtime we visited. [TOP]

Red Lion, The
Horncastle
Local
This is a friendly place that serves great food. However, I must recommend that if you visit Horncastle, DO NOT park in the Pay and Display car park outside The Ship pub.

The Gripe Zone:
We parked and paid 30p for our ticket. It was valid for 1 hour. We ate and returned to our car after 35 minutes. The pay and display ticket was still in the windscreen yet there was a parking offence ticket stuck to the windscreen too. This clearly stated that we Had Not paid and/or displayed. There was a fifty pound fine too. The Date box was not even filled in on either copy and the time box had been tampered with. We spent pounds on registered postage, calls to citizens advice and lost time at work. After three weeks, Excel Parking Services Ltd "decided" that it was null and void. So I have to say that in my opinion, Excell car parks must be avoided at all costs!

Red Lion, The
Grenoside, Sheffield
Local
Like The Sportsman, I don't really know where this pub is. It is somewhere on the road from Sheffield centre to High Green, once you've passed through Hillsborough. It's not bad inside, a bit typical of a locals pub. We only stayed for one drink though. [TOP]

109 Charles Street, Sheffield

Quiet
3 October 1998:
The original review for this pub stated that I didn't like it. We must have visited on an off night. I have just been there again and I found it a very relaxing, friendly sort of place. It’s a sort of "Traditional" pub and I liked it a lot tonight. I'll go again very soon, and give you my final verdict then……

Red Lion, The
Skegness
Mix
Another JDW offering, it has similar décor to all the other JDW's in this guide. It is not as large as most JDW's tend to be, but the food is equally as nice and the beer is cheap. [TOP]

Red Lion, The
Skipton
Loud
My good friend Anna works in The Red Lion. It's a fairly big pub and is one of Skipton's better offerings. I once got a glass full of lemonade or something accidentally dropped on my head by some really drunk bloke and got drenched. I had to go and dry my hair and clothes in the toilets which was fun. :-) [TOP]

Retreat, The
12A The Oasis, Sheffield Meadowhall
0114 256 8680
Mix
This is the only pub in Meadowhall - Sheffield's huge shopping centre. It is nice inside but it's drinks are ridiculously expensive. [TOP]

Ridgeway Arms, The
Quarry Hill, Mosborough

Dining
This is a Tom Cobbleigh pub, like The Old Queens Head in Sheffield. As a result, the drinks are well priced, the pub in very good condition and the food is Gorgeous! [TOP]

Royal Standard, The
Sheffield
Local
This is a locals type of pub. We visited on a Thursday evening. There was a 70's disco just getting going (i.e. there was no-one dancing or seemingly interested in it) but the pool table was available and of a good quality. [TOP]
