Duttons, Chester A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
A modern bar in Chester, Duttons has a good range of ales and is listed in this year’s Good Beer Guide.
A bar tucked away down a little street in Chester, this place is both modern and welcoming. This pub has an entry in the Good Beer Guide 2006 and offers a decent selection of ales yet appeals to the late-night Chester crowd. A vision in steel, glass, and dark wood, this place seems to cater mainly for people wanting food. We spent a good half hour sat at one of the large tables sipping a glass of wine and a pint of J W Lees Icebreaker, a pint I was a little disapointed in on the taste front.
It was late at night when we visited and there was an excellent atmosphere about the place. The bouncers on the door were friendly and we’d guess the average age of the customers was around 30.

> We spent a good half hour sat at one of the large tables…
The use of the verb “sat” as expressed here as the past participle in its intransitive form is incorrect. The prose is written in the active voice, in the perfect tense. “Sat” would imply the passive voice (the act of being physically picked up and placed at the table by an external agent). The present participle (”sitting”) is required in this instance.
