Leeds Beer Festival Day One
Mike enjoys day one of the Leeds Beer Festival 2006.
The day finally arrived, it had been like waiting for Christmas, and it was good to be back!
We beat the queue by getting in before 6.30 but the Thursday night is usually the quietest. The theme this year is Heroes and Heroines and the upper bar area is the Bar of Champions - featuring breweries from all over the country who have won awards for their beer.
The beers were all up to the usual high standards of the Leeds Beer Festival, and as usual, Pudsey Civic Hall makes for an excellent venue. The pies sold at the food stand may or may not have contained real meat, but the Cornish pasties were outstanding!
A brass band played on stage but we didn’t really take much notice. The sweet counter seemed to be doing a roaring trade selling bagged goodies to passers-by.
Andrew and I were shocked when Matt left early to go to his local pub instead of drinking in the atmosphere (and beer) of the once-yearly event, but that left all the more for us, so we did not mind too much.
So I managed to get through seven beer tokens (separate blog entry coming soon) and we left at about 10.30. The place was quieting down but was still buzzing along nicely.
While Matt, Eric, Kris and Steve were still with us, we played around with silly settings on our camera phones, the results of which I display here for all to see:

Here’s to tomorrow! (hic!)

Leaving a beer festival, especially a decent one like this, to go to a pub is sacrilege.
