Bojangles, Pudsey A Pint Of Ale Pub Review

A dull, run-of-the-mill bar, Bojangles never really lived up to its promise.

When Bojangles first opened, we thought that it was the bar that Pudsey has been crying out for. A little bit up-market; classy interior, decent beer, good atmosphere. When we visited today though, our opinions have changed a little. Giant England flags fill the upper windows. A lot of the seating seems to have been removed to pack in more of the weekend drunken crowd and the place feels tired. An ugly iron gate guards the bottom of the staircase which is now an entrance to a club with a cheap-looking sign straight from the eighties.

There are still two real ale pumps: a Tim Taylor’s Landlord and a Tetley’s, although the latter was off today. Of the remaining impressive ten pumps, including San Miguel and the ubiquitous Stella Artois, only six were working. A large screen pumped out Sky football and the mirrored interior reflected this across the bar area.

My pint of San Miguel was a decent one and we failed miserably at a few games of The Weakest Link on the quiz machine. In all, an establishment that promised so much a year ago is now a fairly average market-town bar that has aspirations above what it has managed to achieve.

That’s a great shame, they used to serve the tasty 1664 Blanc, which is possibly the only place in Pudsey to serve it.

It’s funny. It’s months since the World Cup and Bojangles is still proudly displaying a banner saying it’s showing World Cup football. A sad indicator of how this bar is going.

Thanks for your comment, Sue! Don’t worry, I really don’t think you’re missing much! When it opened, Bojangles was excellent - a good atmosphere and good beer. Now it’s just another run-down bar appealing to the under-age crowd, which is a real shame.

Try The Village in Farsley. It’s small, but does a good range of quality drinks, the food seems excellent and there’s a small seating area outside for those good weather evenings. They’re opening another bar just up the street too. Called ‘Rooms’, it looks as though it’s going to be bigger.
