The Scarbrough, Leeds A Pint Of Ale Pub Review

An excellent Leeds pub, The Scarbrough is always busy, and rightly so! Regular beer festivals.

This city centre pub near the train station is one of Leeds’ finest. We visited at around 6.30 on Good Friday afternoon and there was a buzz about the place, but it was not too crowded.

We counted six real ales on tap today, including Litton Ale Brewery’s Dark Star. This was a wonderful pint - it tasted amazing and was served to perfection by a barman who had the "worst hangover ever".

The pub is frequently awarded Leeds CAMRA awards and has recently been the Pub of the Year. The pub is informally split into two main areas by the entrance and the bar. It is quite dark inside but this is not a bad thing. Pictures on the wall are accompanied with text explaining some of the pub’s history. The owner of the pub at the start of the 20th Century also owned the Leeds City Varieties music hall, so old posters are also displayed on the walls.

The Scarbrough sometimes holds a mini beer festival where the back of the pub serves many more beers than can usually be served.

A review of the Scarbrough would not be complete without a note on the spelling of the name. The Scarbrough is named after Lord Scarbrough and not the seaside town, Scarborough.
