The Boathouse, Saltaire A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
A riverside pub, The Boathouse is good if a little tatty.
This is a small pub wedged between the waters of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the river Aire. You walk along the small riverside terrace to enter the building. The bar is in the centre of the pub, between the traditional lounge and the more bland dining area. There is a small beer garden.
Three ales were on tap when we visited: Caledonian Deuchars, Black Sheep and Tim Taylor’s Landlord. We opted for the Deuchars and it was a decent pint. It was very quiet when we visited. The only other clientele were three drunk men talking very loudly and ‘colourfully’ about the state of their business. In all, an average, no-frills local boozer with little to set it apart from any other other than the wonderful riverside views. If only it wasn’t raining!

I would advise you not to eat food here. A group of friends and I ate there yesterday (30/9/06) and we waited over an hour to get our food - soup and sandwiches. Once the food arrived, we tucked in, until one person noticed a maggot on her plate. On inspection, we discovered that the salad was crawling with maggots, both alive and dead.
The staff tried to convince us that the salad had been washed, but it obviously hadn’t. If they cannot meet such a basic hygiene requirement, you have to wonder what else they are not doing…
