A pub counter
Mike begins counting pubs.
Back in 1998, when I was a fresh-faced second year student in Sheffield, I started keeping a list of all the pubs I’d had a drink in. The list reached somewhere near 120. I added these all to a free website hosted by Fortune City (It’s long gone now unfortunately). I called it ‘Down The Pub’. It did OK for 1998. I even got a mention in an article in the July 1999 issue of Internet Magazine as one of the top 100 best designed personal sites in Britain! (Misquote from the magazine - “It was my new year’s resolution to have a drink in 100 pubs. I easily made that target and have had an interest in web design ever since”!)
Unfortunately, I’ve not kept up with the list and I’ve lost track of all the pubs I’ve been in. A man called Steve added a comment to Pint Of Ale yesterday and included a link to his blog, Pubman’s Moblog. He’s been counting pubs he’s had a drink in for 18 years and is well into his 2000s. Inspired by this amazing feat, I’m going to resurrect my 1998 list, fill in a few obvious blanks and continue with it on a page on Pint Of Ale. Watch this space!
