A visit to a moon-lit Bankhouse in Pudsey
Matt and Mike dropped by The Bankhouse on a moonlit night.
A swift pint before the cinema saw Matt and me in the Bankhouse, one of our favourite Pudsey pubs. The full moon was shining down on the place as we parked the car, it looked beautiful!
The pub has recently had a makeover and it is a gleaming study in how a modern pub renovation can be done right. The wood is gleaming and new and light but there is no chain-pub mediocrity about the place. It’s a classic pub interior and will just get more and more homely as time passes by. The Bankhouse is well worth a visit!

I’ve actually been very disappointed by the ‘new’ Bankhouse. Admittedly it was a little tired before, but now where is the character?
First, the menu. Being a vegetarian I’ve only tried the single vegetarian item on offer (I think it was some kind of tart), which was overpriced (around £8) and extremely mediocre. I definitely wouldn’t go back for that.
But then there’s the beer. I won’t be going back for that either. I’ve been 4 or 5 times since they remodeled and only once has there been any guest ales on.
The Bankhouse is one of my locals and I want to love it, especially considering how few pubs in Pudsey serve food, but I will be sticking to the Fleece (my other local) where I can always try something new or at least have a nice pint of Landlord.

Thanks for your comment, Luf. I’ve not tried the food at The Bankhouse and have always felt that the beer choice was OK. Having said that, it’s a car ride for us and we don’t visit all that often!
The Fleece on the other hand - it’s just not right that we’ve not written about it on this blog! It’s listed in the Good Beer Guide and yet we’ve only visited the once. A ‘to do’ item for January - get ourselves down to The Fleece!

The wife and I and two friends went for a meal here a couple of weeks ago and found the beer was quite good.
I had the Theakstons best bitter and my mate and the girls were on lager.which they had a good range.
We ordered the food which took ages to come.
I ordered the Duck, which when it came was smothered in sauce which was too rich and sickly and the veg which I got was over done.
The others had opted for the steak which they said was quite good, and they seemed to have enough of it..
Overall the Bankhouse experience was ok but the food served is probably ok for a restaurant but not an open plan pub especially at the prices charged…..
Paying that sort of money you deserve The Stroom which i would recommend.
