All Bar One, Regent Street, London A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
Yawn. Have you been to an All Bar One before? Yes? Then you know exactly what All Bar One on Regent Street is like.
It was a long walk from The Audley to Regent Street on our mini Monopoly Pub Crawl, but we took in some of the sights of London on the way. The post-Christmas sales were in full swing and we were not prepared for just how busy Regent Street gets at this time of year. The streets were teeming with people and it was an effort to squeeze ourselves through the throng to get to All Bar One at the top of the street.
So what can we say about All Bar One? It’s a national chain, have you been to one? If the answer’s yes, then there’s nothing to say. This one is the same as all the others. There is plenty of choice when it comes to lagers and the odd weissbier, but there is no real ale. The bar had two hand pumps on it and our hopes were raised. Unfortunately both were off, or - worse! - there just for decoration, we couldn’t tell. I opted for an Edelweiss which was quite refreshing, but there was something about it that didn’t sit right with my taste buds. I can’t put my finger on what it was though, perhaps just a little bit sour for my taste.
Despite the bustle outside, All Bar One was not too crowded and we were served with quick efficiency and we just managed to get a seat amongst the shoppers and their plastic bags. It’s a typical All Bar One - there is a floor to ceiling rack of bottles behind the bar, all the tables have large numbers painted on the tops, there’s lots of food being served and the room has an industrial feel. There was a large Christmas tree and there was a wonderful, large industrial clock hanging from the ceiling.
