The Marquess of Anglesey, Bow Street, London A Pint Of Ale Pub Review

A warm, cosy, jovial, buzzing pub, The Marquess of Anglesey is an excellent pub in which to rest our aching legs.

The Marquess of Anglesey on the orange Bow Street was my favourite pub on our mini Monopoly pub crawl. This may have been to do with it cropping up mid-adventure just as my legs were beginning to ache and the cold of the winter day was getting to me, or perhaps it was the swift service, roaring fire and jovial, chattering, friendly atmosphere.

The pub is directly opposite the Royal Opera House on an otherwise anonymous street. My Young’s Bitter was served quickly and in tip top, gorgeous condition. The barman almost poured it into a Deuchars glass and made a big show of the mistake. I joked that it didn’t matter but he said that it’s quite a telling off if you’re found to pour Young’s into a rival-branded glass!

There was a homely atmosphere in this pub with its chairs and sofas all taken up by an eclectic but young mix of people. There was a buzz of chatter and banter in the air. We were tempted to stop the grand adventure and relax here all night! The place was not crowded and we chose to sit on stools at the bar, our backs to the roaring coal-effect gas fire. Large, framed photographs of the area in years gone by hung on the walls.

There’s not much more to say because unfortunately, I was so taken with the place I didn’t really write much in my notebook while we were here. I’d be interested to go back another time to check that I was right to be so taken by the place!
