The Angel, Islington, London A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
A somewhat typical Wetherspoons affair, The Angel is a pub in Islington and appears on the Monopoly board.
This was the last pub on our Mini Monopoly Pub Crawl. We’d been at it for almost seven hours and we’d just run as fast as we could up the incredibly long, stationary Angel Underground escalator. We were very tired!
The original Angel pub that features on the Monopoly board was not a Wetherspoons chain outlet when the London board was created in the 1930s. Indeed, the pub was not even in Islington, it was in nearby Finsbury. However, we felt it only right to pop into the pub named The Angel in Islington.
This is a fairly anonymous looking, anodyne and grubby Wetherspoons. It had some tables and chairs outside on the cold pavement and we decided to sit ourselves at one of them. The pub wasn’t too crowded and I got served really quickly. There was a nice range of seasonal ales on the bar. We opted for halves - we were beginning to tire of it all by now!
I’m struggling to say much more about this pub. It’s a Wetherspoon’s and a bog-standard one at that. It’s a long affair with the counter on the left. We really did enjoy resting on the outdoor tables, watching the world go by.

Dudes, in fact the site of the modern day Angel pub was in Finsbury, before that borough was abolished, being combined with neighbouring Islington to form the London Borough of Islington.
