Café De Gaeper, Amsterdam A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
A tiny pub in Amsterdam, Café De Gaeper was an excellent place for a drink while we got our bearings in this wonderful city.
Walking the streets of Amsterdam is a real joy. There’s hardly any traffic (apart from bikes), they’re clean, the architecture is beautiful in its own functional brick way, and you’re never more than a few steps away from some wonderful drinking establishments. Café de Gaeper is one such place. It was starting to rain when we wandered inside one cold February evening.
As with many Amsterdam cafes (for ‘café’, read ‘pub’), it’s a small, cosy place. It’s dark inside. Many hundreds of concert posters, old and new, line the walls on top of rich red and gold ornate wallpaper. There’s a good few tables and stools line the bar. Behind the bar was one friendly, English-speaking hostess who served me a cold lager.
Café de Gaeper is the second Amsterdam cafe we frequented and we were starting to feel at home in the city.

A fantastic, relaxed atmosphere. A ‘home from home’. Good music, good food, great drinks, good company and great service. Good view of the world from the window seats. Don’t want to go anywhere else when in Amsterdam!
