Feijoa, Amsterdam A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
We only came to Feijoa because we needed the loo, but we’re glad we popped in to this decent Amsterdam bar.
Wander aimlessly around the streets and canals of beautiful Amsterdam and sooner or later, no matter how much you are taken in by the amazing architecture and beautiful sights, disaster will strike. You will become so carried away with the place that you won’t realise that the three pints you drank earlier in the day will have run their course and you will be suddenly desperate for the loo. So it was that we upped the pace of our wanderings and darted for the first bar or pub that we came across. It was Feijoa’s lucky day!
This bar would not perhaps be on our ‘best of Amsterdam’ list, preferring, as we do, dingy dark holes that ooze character and atmosphere, but it was an excellent place for a half hour break to take stock of how our holiday was progressing.
Feijoa is a small, modern establishment on one of the main tram routes from the Central Station through Amsterdam. It is a vision in gleaming steel, coloured lighting and mirrors. It is a long bar with a mirrored back wall. A bronze Buddha’s head watches over matters below from high up on the wall. There is a lower-ceilinged seating area towards the back that comprises trendy cream faux-leather benches. The all-important toilets are reached by ascending a booming steel staircase to a mezzanine floor above.
The beer is as could be expected in a trendy bar - lager. I opted for the ubiquitous Heineken, which was served at our seats along with a fantastic selection of nuts and nibbles. There were design-oriented magazines on the tables for the Dutch readers amongst you.
The clientèle was young and there was a pleasing feel about the place. The mix of British and American music that was playing was modern, non-imposing and suited the mood of the bar.
Thanks to our toilet-need, we managed to experience a bar we would otherwise not have entered and one that would be worth a visit if you pass.

I’ve just gotten home from a two-week holiday in Europe - first London then Paris, Amsterdam and lastly, Dublin. Amsterdam is a wonderul city with lovely people. Our absolute favorite place for a cocktail in all of Europe was Feijoa! We sauntered in there to have one last drink for the night and found ourselves still there three hours later! Sergej and Robert are uber-bartenders that know how to make the most fabulous cocktails! Whatever you’re in the mood for, they will have the perfect suggestion and maybe a story to go along with it. Their charisma and style make the cocktail even better and the experience more memorable! It was a much needed experience coming from Los Angeles, where there are numerous lounges, and the bartenders leave much to be desired. Our experience at Feijoa was definitely the top night out in Europe!

I have been 5 days in Amsterdam with my mate. I´m from Gran Canaria and my mate is from Madrid. We met a waiteress whose name I can´t remember, she´s from Holland, she is just like Monica, from “Friends”. She suggested us some clubs to go to in Amsterdam, really good choices. I just want to say that this girl “Monica” is the nicest girl I met in Amsterdam and I probably would have falled in love with her if I stay one more day in Amsterdam.

I am wondering if any one knows if the bartender Sergej from feijoa is an old friend of mine that I met in Aruba 12 years ago. If it is Sergej, could you give him this e-mail from Gigi in New York!!

We stumbled across this bar by accident at the weekend. May not be the best beer bar, but I do have to say it’s the finest cocktail bar I have found in the city. Real professionals and a great atmosphere.

Hi there,
I think this is a wonderful place, and I will be in Amsterdam next week. Does anybody know at what times and days they are open? Open on Monday? Please let me know, thanks!
