The Golden Lion, King Street, London A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
A beautiful looking pub squeezed between imposing office buildings, The Red Lion is an excellent place for a lunchtime pint and scotch egg!
I was in the St James area of London with work recently and stumbled upon the Golden Lion on King Street. This is an incredibly thin building squeezed between two imposing office buildings and simply invites you in to sample the ale.
Walking into the thin, small interior, I noticed that the counter dominates the small area. Large, two-tier tables take up the space by the bow window. I perched at one of these with my colleagues and nursed a pint of Adnam’s Bitter.
The glass in the lovely bow window is decorated with colourful flowers and theatre-related imagery. The pub is dark and homely and was quite busy, considering it was about 3pm. The clientèle seemed mainly to be local businessmen having a sneaky pint or two.
We ate pork pies and scotch eggs. They were good. Unfortunately, we talked about work and I did not get too much of a chance to really take in the place, the atmosphere or the decor. This pub really appealed to me though and will be well worth another visit.
Have you visited the Golden Lion on King Street? What did I miss? Is it as good as my 30 minute visit suggested it is? Let me know by using the comments below!
