Book Review - Man Walks into a Pub, Pete Brown

I’ve just finished reading this excellent book, subtitled a sociable history of beer. I bought it on a whim in Waterstones the other day and I’m glad I did. It’s entertaining, thought provoking, funny, detailed and educational.

It’s a history of beer and its role in British society from Roman times up to the Stella-serving chain pubs of the early 21st Century. There are some genuinely eye-opening facts and some interesting and informed opinions interspersed with amusing footnotes and tangential anecdotes.

Man Walks into a Pub is an easy read and it rattles along at quite a pace. I’d highly recommend it for an entertaining, beery read.

Mike,

Thanks for the kind comments!

I’ll try to resist doing a shameless plug for my second book, but I’m blogging now if anyone here wants to check it out: http://petebrown.blogspot.com
