The Brunswick Lounge, Manchester A Pint Of Ale Pub Review
I pondered for a while over what to call this post as the pub it relates to may not be called The Brunswick Lounge at all, but more on that later. It was a sunny March day when I was travelling with work and changing trains at Manchester Piccadilly. I had the best part of an hour to kill so wandered off in search of a pint of ale. The first place that caught my eye was the Brunswick.
It’s a modern pub conversion. Cream painted bricks and bare brick fireplaces reside over the obligatory leather sofas and comfy seats. Razorlight played the background music. There are three or four areas. The bar area includes stools and sofas. There are interesting light shades, pillar candles and plants. The small, non-smoking cream coloured front room contains oil paintings and framed photographs. There’s a foodie dining area towards the back.
There was a range of Theakstons ales on tap: Best Bitter, Old Perculiar and even Theakston’s Mild, which I don’t see very often. I opted on this occasion for the Best Bitter. It was served in excellent condition. It was an excellent pint.
The pub has a wi-fi zone, so I settled down on a comfy seat, Best Bitter in hand and spent a really pleasant 40 minutes or so answering emails and catching up on the day’s work. The sun was beaming through the large windows and I felt fantastic!
The pub seems to be undergoing a bit of an identity crisis. I noted the large BRUNSWICK sign on the pub’s front, but it seemed to refer to itself as the Brunswick Lounge inside. However, the pub’s website (see links on right) calls itself B Lounge or even B Lounge @ Brunswick. Historically, it seems the pub was The Brunswick, and had a brief spell as Finnegans Wake. So I don’t know what it’s called. But it’s worth a visit. It’s a modern place and will have wide appeal. It serves good beer in decent form and the free wi-fi hotspot is a bonus if you happen to be out on the piss with your laptop.
