First Pint of the Smoke Free Pub
Being a non smoker myself I’ve been looking forward to this day for a while. No more stuffy atmosphere, foggy eyes or coming home smelling like you’ve been on fire.
So, eager to sip my first pint of freedom; Debbie and I ventured to Fanny’s Ale and Cider House in Shipley. This is a traditional style pub split into 3 sections with the bar as the focal point. The floors are wooden, a real fireplace is in the back room (must visit in winter) and the walls display historic signs and photos of Shipley and Saltaire, which all add to a cosy atmosphere.
Fanny’s has made it into CAMRA’s good beer guide for the last 9 years and it’s of no surprise as the bar hosts an impressive selection of ales (and ciders) including; Moorhouse’s, Theakston, Timothy Taylor and Black Sheep. For any white beer lovers, Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc is available on draft and is kept well and chilled to perfection.
With the Old Peculier just having run out, we both opted for a pint of Moorhouse’s Black Cat to start with, a dark and malty flavored ale which was unfortunately, a bit disappointing. Next I moved onto the 1664 Blanc which was quite frankly, excellent.
All in all, an excellent pub and one which deserves a visit if you’re in the area. I will certainly be heading back there in the near future to sample more of what Fanny’s Ale and Cider House has to offer.

Couldn’t agree more about the smoke-free environment.
This is a great pub (although small and cosy) and the only thing to ever spoil it was the thick smoke.
The Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc was spot on….
